About the Team

The mission of the Colgate University Women's and Men's Alpine Ski Team is to provide an outlet for the students of Colgate University to race in a fun and competitive atmosphere regardless of the sex, ability, or experience of the participant. We compete in the United States College Ski Association's (USCSA) Adirondack Division against top notch athletes from Clarkson, Hamilton, RPI, Skidmore, SUNY Albany, Union, and USMA. The Alpine Ski Team is extremely proud of our accomplishments on the hill and we continually seek the advice of our teammates and our veteran coach, Jim Longo, to improve our skiing.

Dry land training, an essential ingredient for any team's success, begins in the fall. Team members return in the end of January from Winter Break on the Wednesday before the start of classes and competition commences the following Saturday. There are five invitational meets during the regular season, each with a giant slalom race on Saturday and a slalom race on Sunday. We practice twice a week at Toggenburg Mountain, which is about a thirty minute drive away from Colgate. The opportunity to compete in post-season competition hinges upon the teams' final divisional standings. The Adirondack Division sends either two or three teams to USCSA Eastern Regionals depending on the strength of competition throughout the regular season.

Both the Women's and Men's Alpine Ski Team carry five varsity racers, with a minimum of five junior varsity racers to each weekend race. However, most often, the Team can accommodate all junior varsity racers that wish to travel to the weekend meets. Unfortunately, only varsity racers can race at USCSA Eastern Regionals.
