Jenny Chi Yuen Chan

Ms. Chan is a native of Hong Kong. Before she came over to live in New York City in December 1999, she worked with the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) of the Hong Kong Government as a translator/interpreter. She was heavily engaged in the translation of documents and interpretation work in the office dealing with liaison on behalf of ICAC with various levels of the People’s Procuratorates (Prosecutors Office) in the People’s Republic of China before and shortly after the historic Handover of Hong Kong in July 1997.

Ms.Chan did her Bachelor degree in Chinese from the University of London and Master degree in Mass Communications from the University of Leicester, and studied Japanese briefly at International Christian University in Tokyo. In America, she has been granted corresponding membership by the American Translators Association and admitted to the National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators (NAJIT). She is also a member of the Institute of Linguists in the UK and the International Association of Forensic Linguists.

Among her publications are research papers entitled “Between Cantonese and English in court” for the 3^rd Biannual Conference of the International Association of Forensic Linguists at Duke University, North Carolina in September 1997 and “Legal Translation in Hong Kong: cultural and linguist aspects” for the 21^st Century Kunming International Symposium for Practical Chinese Writings at Yunnan University, China in July 1999.
