Peter Overby
Columbia Journalism Review says that when it comes to covering political money, "NPR's Peter
Overby... as
they say, 'owns the story.'" Overby
has been tracking money and politics for 10 years. In 1994,
he became
the
first reporter on NPR's Power, Money and Influence beat.
A graduate of Boston
University's College of Communication, two daily
papers and
Common Cause Magazine, Overby has either shared or won an
Investigative Reporters
and Editors Award for Outstanding Investigative Journalism,
two Project
Censored citations for digging out under-reported stories,
and an Alternative
Press Award for investigative journalism. His work
has appeared in the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times,
Philadelphia
Inquirer, Reader's Digest, Utne Reader, Columbia Journalism
Review,
The Washington Monthly, and the Nieman Report at Harvard
University.
He also has spoken on
campaign finance reporting at conferences of IRE,
the DuPont
Forum at Columbia University's Graduate School of
Journalism, National
Council of State Legislatures and Radio and Television News
Directors
Foundation.
