Corruption
in Post-Communist Societies: Central Europe and the Former
Soviet Union
This is
a working bibliography of library and web resources
assembled in the Spring of 1999 with the assistance and
support of the Local Government and Public Service Reform
Initiative of the Open Society Institute, Budapest, Hungary.
It is intended to be useful to researchers, journalists,
students, and all others concerned with corruption and
development in the former Communist world.
The
emphasis here is on corruption, and on materials published
in English since 1989. Thus, for a number of closely-related
topics -- such as Russian mafiyas -- only a few major
sources are listed. In addition, while many excellent
studies were published before 1989, and in other languages,
they are not listed here. They are, however, cited and
discussed in many of the publications listed here, and they
may prove very useful to anyone seeking to understand the
deeper origins, and the consequences, of corruption in the
region.
There are
two lists of resources: Print
(books and articles) and Web
resources (links to organizations, scholars, data and
written materials on the Internet). A Search page enables
you to determine whether a term (a name, a concept, a title)
appears in either of these lists. Then, moving to that page
and using the "Find" command on your web browser
will enable you to find each occurrence of that term. These
links will take you out of the Center for Ethics and World
Societies website.
