Dorothy Solinger
Dorothy
Solinger has a Ph.D. from Stanford University. She is a
Professor of Political Science and Co-Director of the Center for
Asian Studies at the University of California-Irvine. Professor
Solinger's field of specialization is Chinese politics with a
concentration on political economy. She has written on the
politics of socialist commerce, the treatment of the private
sector under socialism in China, and the politics of economic
reform. In the last decade, she has critically examined the
impact of rural migration, transient populations, and
unemployment on the dynamics of Chinese cities. Her many books
and articles include Chinese Business Under Socialism: The
Politics of Domestic Commerce, 1949-1980, and From Lathes to
Looms: China’s Industrial Policy in Comparative Perspective.
Professor Solinger’s book Contesting Citizenship in Urban China
was the winner of the 2001 Joseph R. Levenson prize of the
Association for Asian Studies for the best book on 20th century
China published in 1999. |
