CEWS Profile: Paul Rusesabagina

Paul Rusesabagina was the manager of the Mille Collines Hotel that housed more than 1,200 Tutsis refugees during the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. His wrenching story and that of the genocide that killed mover than 800,000 people within 100 days is chronicled in the critically acclaimed film, Hotel Rwanda. Inspired by his love for his family, this ordinary man summoned extraordinary courage to save the lives of others, by granting them shelter in the hotel located in the capital city of Kigali. Paul Rusesabagina was honored in 2000 with the Prize for Humanity, presented to him by the Immortal Chaplains Foundation. He was also awarded Amnesty International's Enduring Spirit Award, the National Civil Rights Museum's International Freedom Award, and the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom Award.
