Mission Statement

Colgate University maintains that independent research is one of the most significant aspects of a Liberal Arts undergraduate education, especially for students in the sciences. Doing research requires an understanding of what has been done before, what problems exist, how to formulate a plan of work, collect data and interpret it. Each year, more than half of the graduating seniors in the sciences engage in research under the direction of a Colgate Faculty member. A significant part of research is communicating your work to others. We provide a forum for such communication by publishing the Colgate Journal of the Sciences each year.
