2007 Binghamton Circuit Race
On Sunday, April 29th, Tom Blonkowski, Will Hilsman and Andrew Krulewitz all traveled to Binghamton to race in the annual Binghamton
Circuit Race. Also participating in the race was team coach Margaret Thomson
and our own fount of cycling wisdom, Emory Creel. The course was an up and down
1.6 mile loop with a steep finishing straight, and the wind was vicious. Tom
held strong in the Cat. 5 field until an acceleration caught him off guard and
he lost contact with the peloton. He made a good
effort and almost caught the field but the race ended before he regained the
pace. Andrew and Will both made their debut as Cat. 3 racers
in the Pro/1/2/3 field. While there were no real professional
riders in the group, there were a fair number of Cat. 2 racers. During the race, Andrew was involved in a
dead heat sprint for a prime prize but lost by inches on the line. The group
stayed together and the race came down to a final group sprint. Both Will and
Andrew emerged out of the chaos in the field to place 5th and 6th,
respectively.
