Athletics and extra-curricular activities play an important role in
the lives of our brothers. Phi Delts are active on teams at both the
inter-collegiate and club level, including track, soccer, skiing, rugby,
cross-country, and crew. Brothers also play an important role in
campus organizations such as the Maroon-News, Konosioni, the
Colgate 13, Outdoor Education, AJS, Class councils, Baker's Dozen, Jazz
Band, and the Resolutions. In addition to our co-curricular activities,
academics are a serious concern to the brothers of Phi Delta Theta,
with brothers honored as members of Phi Eta Sigma, Charles Dana
Scholars, and continous representation on Colgate's Dean's List.
An active social life is also central to the life of the house, with
cocktail parties, hard fought cups tournaments, and theme parties
such as our annual "black and white" and "fire and ice" parties
provide a welcome chance to relieve the pressures of life at Colgate.
Our alumni brothers and chef of 30 years Winnie Mackay keep the
undergraduate brothers mindful of our colorful past as we look
together to the future.
The New York Zeta chapter of Phi Delta Theta, founded in 1918, has
a long tradition of brotherhood at Colgate. Based on the principles of
friendship, learning, and moral character, the brothers of Phi Delta
Theta take pride in one another and in our accomplishments both
together and as individuals.
Our active alumni network and national organization are also
important assets to our chapter which have led us to the position of
financial security we now enjoy. Famous national alumni include
former President Benjamin Harrison, Senator Sam Nunn, J. Willard
Marriott, former Secretary of State and Chief of Staff James Baker
III, architect Frank Lloyd Wright, William Randolph Hearst, Lou
Gehrig, Burt Reynolds, Roger Ebert, Neil Armstrong, and Detlef Schrempf. The
support of our alumni has led us to recent house-wide renovation
projects including our living room, dining room, and kitchen.
