Steps to participate in a chat session.
Prepare your computer prior to the Chat Session.
- Print out the users guide for the chat client software that you will be using. See left sidebar.
- Download chat client software for your computer. See left sidebar.
- Refer to the User Guide to configure your chat client software to connect with Colgate's chat server.
- Before the date of the chat session, test to make sure that you are making a connection with the Colgate Chat Server. Each Users Guide explains how you can determine if you are connected.
Participate in the Chat Session.
Note: Chat sessions are "LIVE". To participate, you must log in during the time period indicated above. Professor Fred Busch will begin accepting questions 15 minutes prior to the start time listed above. At 8 PM, Fred will begin addressing your questions.
- Launch your chat client software and enter the #Question-Only Room. Pose your questions to professor Busch.
- Once you have posed your question, enter the #Dialog-with-Fred room and patiently wait for Fred to address your question. Your initial status in the #Dialog-with-Fred room will be "observer", you will only be able to watch the dialog that is taking place. When Fred gets to your question, you will be given the ability to respond - we will change your status from an observer to a participant.
- Once Fred has responded to your question, you can then respond to Fred in the #Dialog-with-Fred room and conduct a dialog if you wish.
- When your dialog is complete, your status in the #Dialog-with-Fred room will be switched back to observer.
