Karen Novak
Karen Novak was born on February 10, 1958 in Dallas, Texas. Most of her childhood was spent in La Canada-Flintridge, a suburb of Los Angeles where already inspired to write, she spent her twenty-five cent allowance on paper and pencils. In 1976 she attended Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington for a year before moving to Montreal, Quebec, and ultimately pursuing a degree in psychology at Concordia University, awarded in 1979. After college she moved with her husband to Concord, New Hampshire and then to Norwich, New York. It was during these moves, and after having two children that Karen Novak decided to begin actively pursuing her writing.

Five Mile House
by Karen Novak
Karen Novak makes her writing debut this fall with an exciting mystery, FIVE MILE HOUSE. Written from the points of view of two women-one dead and one living, FIVE MILE HOUSE delves into themes of intrigue and murder, suicide, adultery, family and the unstoppable strength of two mothers protecting their children.
Leslie Stone, a former cop, recently released from an institution, moves with her husband Greg and their two children to the quaint, small, New England town of Wellington. Greg, wanting to protect his wife from the scandal of her release from the police force, accepts a job refurbishing the historical Wellington landmark, Five Mile House, for the busy Halloween season. In this seemingly peaceful town Leslie learns of the story of Eleanor Bly, the one-hundred-year-oid ghost of Five Mile House, who is infamous for having murdered her children before leaping to her death. A savvy investigator, Leslie is not willing to accept the story of Eleanor's death-she becomes determined to learn more.
