As I write, the temperatures in
our valley struggle to reach zero, and we all find ourselves daydreaming
of summer. There is something wonderfully cozy about curling up indoors
to listen to chamber music on a winter day, but that wonderful and
flexible repertoire also lends itself so well to celebrating the lush
glorious summer that we daily remind ourselves is awaiting us. So, this
summer, as the lemon lilies bloom and the swans sun themselves on Taylor
Lake, Chenango offers "Serenades of Summer," filled with themes of love,
travel, and inspiration.
Our classical artists join you
from around the globe (Alaska, Venice, Mexico, New York) and bring with
them their wonderful ideas of summer music. By popular demand, a
classical guitarist will join us, and the lovely Sunday "Interlude" with
flute and guitar will precede our Sunday concert. Once again, we will
roam the wonderful new village spaces for programs of every type,
including an expanded children's offering of puppet show and fun
participatory songs, authentic Russian folk music, and the cutting-edge
flair of Fritz's Polka Band. New this year are the "Porch Concerts,"
given by the student interns in the month before the festival, and,
during the week
of the 'Fest, "Concert Teasers" in various locations, during which the
Chenango artists will let you sample their musical wares in brief, free,
lunchtime concerts around the village.
I hope you will make your plans
soon to join us in a joyous "Serenade" as summer officially begins in
the Chenango Valley in all of its colorful splendor. We look forward to
creating a memorable experience with you!
