| "Last year was great, this year was
unbelievable!" "I enjoyed every event . . . the variety, the sociability of the artists . . . it made me see Hamilton in a new way." |

With heartfelt and enthusiastic sentiments like these still echoing from
last year's smashing success, I am excited to invite you to the third annual Chenango
Summer MusicFest, June 1720, 1999. Our special blend of music and festivity in the
picturesque Chenango Valley setting of Colgate University and Hamilton, New York is the
perfect way to celebrate the opening of summer. The Chenango Summer MusicFest offers four days of chamber music from William Grant Still to Bruch and Brahms to ragtime, barbershop and jazz. Indoor and outdoor mainstage concerts featuring world-class musicians, "vignette" performances by the Chenango Players young musicians from Colgate University and the region Dixieland jazz, a children's concert, and master classes are woven together with an array of leisure activities and festive refreshments where you can mingle with the artists. |
| Come for a day or for the entire festival and enjoy local hospitality at a nearby
inn or bed and breakfast. Sample the wines of local vintners at our opening reception and
wine tasting. Eavesdrop on the mainstage artists as they work with young talent in master
classes throughout the village. Between concerts and events you can feed the swans and Canada geese on Colgate's Taylor Lake, stroll through the shops in Hamilton, jog or hike in the surrounding countryside, tee off at Colgate's award-winning Seven Oaks Golf Course, or take a horse-drawn carriage ride. Saturday the 19th is Village Day. In addition to free mid-day and evening concerts, you can experience the Farmer's Market, a mainstay of summer Saturday mornings in Hamilton, where you can browse for crafts, plants, and local wares and pick up early summer vegetables. Become a judge of wonderful delicacies as the area's finest eateries present their specialty desserts in the Summer Sweets contest. Follow the roving Chenango Players as they perform in various village locations. Indulge yourself with a barbecued chicken or ice cream picnic on the Village Green. |
