Why should you come on an unofficial visit?

At Colgate, we feel very strongly that the best way to get to know the school and our coaching staff is to come to our campus for a visit. Because of the trend among players and some schools to get commitments earlier and earlier, the UNOFFICIAL VISIT has become extremely important as many players are making decisions before an OFFICIAL VISIT can be taken.

What happens on an unofficial visit?

Generally, we meet with the player, and any parents that make the trip, for approximately an hour. We tour the rink and athletic facilities. We sit down and go through all the information that we would typically cover on a home visit. That includes: our interest level, academics and admissions, our hockey and coaching philosophy, and our player development model. This is also a great opportunity for recruits to ask questions. Also, we highly encourage you to take the official campus tour, they are offered weekdays and some Saturdays and we will discuss it with you when scheduling the visit. Finally, the unofficial visit gives both you and us an opportunity to get to know one another face-to-face, and to assess whether or not Colgate is the right fit.

When should you do an unofficial visit?

Ideally, if you can get out to our campus sometime between January-July of the spring of your Junior (grade 11) year that is the best timing. It is also helpful if we have your Transcripts and Test Scores prior to your visit. However, you can do an unofficial visit at any time and if you happen to be in our area, we encourage you to stop by.

Can you come on an unofficial overnight visit?

This type of visit is becoming more popular. We do offer this to top recruits, if they can fit it into their schedule. Ideally, we work it around a weekend where we are playing a game at home during the recruit's Junior year. In order to meet NCAA regulations, the recruit must pay for everything themselves (except the complimentary admissions to game allowed during an unofficial visit). The costs include paying for room (the Colgate rate is approximately $9/night) and all meals. This is a great way to meet the team, see how Colgate functions, and get an inside look at our program.

How do you schedule an unofficial visit?

All you have to do is e-mail or phone us, which you can do at any time and we would be happy to schedule your visit and make sure someone from our coaching staff is available to meet with you.
