The story of Colgate women’s hockey is a remarkable one. Since its 1973 start, the program has been in a steady state of transition. With each new season, students players, coaches and managers aimed high, gave it their best, raised the program to new heights -and had a blast! Hearing the story through your alumni and student voices, we are struck by how much Colgate women’s hockey has been shaped by each of us and how much hockey has meant to all of us.
Colgate women's hockey was started in the 1973-1974 season as a club team. It remained that way for over two decades with student coaches and beginning players many of whom started hockey on figure skates, most of whom never played hockey prior to attending Colgate
Colgate gained varsity Division III status starting in the 1997-1998 Season. The team played four seasons in Division III with improvements every season, finishing second in the league in 2000-2001.
Colgate was elevated to Division I status starting in the 2001-2002 Season. Since that point, the program has been steadily improving to the point that they are a Nationally recognized program. The team now gives athletic scholarships to incoming players and recruits all across North America and areas of Europe. In the 2006-2007 season the team broke 56 school records enroute to their strongest finish ever, clearly showing the direction of Colgate Women's Hockey. |
