If you are interested in playing for Colgate you should:

  1. Online Recruit Questionnaire - Fill this out as completely as you can, you can do this at any time and at any age.
  2. Recruiting Timeline - Print out the printable version of this and use it as guide throughout the process.
  3. Visiting Colgate - We highly encourage campus visits. Clicking this link will get you started on that process.
  4. Contact Us - Using the Timeline as guide, let us know you are out there and that you are interested.

Below there are some helpful hints as you go through the recruiting process:

Be Honest

  • If you are not interested in a school let that coach know, even if it is Colgate. All coaches and schools look at many players each year for 5-6 spots on the team, you can actually help a little if you decide early on in the process that a school is not for you.
  • Likewise, if you are interested in a school as one of your top choices, let us know. Those players who "play the game" many times end up at their second or third choice because they did not let their top choice know how interested they were.

Do your Homework

  • Check out what all the schools, you are interested in, have to offer academically, athletically and socially and make sure it fits your needs and goals.
  • Talk with friends and teammates that have attended the school.
  • Come on an unofficial visit early in the process.
  • Have a good understanding of each team's recruiting needs:
    • At Colgate we typically bring in only 5-6 players on average each year.
    • On our Colgate players page you can see how many players we have in each position in each class.
    • This is important information for all the schools at which you are looking.
    • Also, some years we will not be recruiting any goalies.

The Player should drive the process, not the Parent(s).

  • Although we expect parents to be involved in the process, the player herself should be in charge of keeping in touch with us via e-mail, phone and visits.
  • We certainly have no problems with speaking with parents on ocassion to answer any questions they have or clarify anything they heard through their daughter. Further, we expect to meet with the parents during the process. However, it is definitely a red flag if we are only and always hearing from the parent and not ever hearing from the player.
  • This is a great learning opportunity for the player that will help to shape their college experience.

Choose a School for all of its Atrributes

  • You will have a much better experience if you choose a school that fits all your needs best. All players go through good and bad times at school. If you are at a school you really like for many different reasons, it is much easier to get through the rough times.
  • Your hockey career will eventually end. Your education and the classmates you meet will last you a lifetime.
